I am a little late to this party. Love it, KJ! You are absolutely correct on all points. This business is a series of calculated moves and skillful planning. Brands should take time to read this blog and learn something; God knows I have. Lotta knowledge here, bra...it's why your writing makes you sound like you smell amazing!

How have all of these comments happened?
After reading comments from brand owner dude, I was like "Oh, I know how that is," but after reading everyone else's comments, I'm kind of dumbfounded by all of the hate toward this post and the blog and everything else. I guess comments are for flaming whoever you don't like or whoever offended who or whatever, but it's crazy(and I guess awesome) to see people supporting the brand in such a way.

Dedicated fanbase, I guess.

I support this article. Whether the music is good or bad, it's definitely a huge deal to have a misleading splash page. Especially one dating so far back.

I run a brand, and it's by no means perfect, it's not even necessarily something I can say I'm "proud" of at this point, but in running a brand, and doing a lot of other things all the while, it's important to keep people you don't know abreast of such things.

Big ups to Holla and all the supporters out there. This blog is unique and special and now I feel like a "KJ is cool but he bashed my dude so fuck him" scenario is poppin off. Haha.

These were my thoughts exactly about this brand. If you look back to previous drops it could be argued the same had been done.
Their 'tiger' logo is without doubt coming from a rebel eight design i saw a while back and aswell as this their indian lady design which dropped last summer was a rip of numerous streetwear brands on karmaloop. This brand i used to really like but design wise now it bores me

Much success to you as well. But instead of questioning my choice to highlight your landing page, why not take that as an opportunity to A) CHANGE IT or B) enlighten my on WHY it hasn't been changed--if your point of contention is that there is a special reason why it hasn't.

You (and your friends) are not the first to disagree with my writing and you won't be the last. But as you grow, criticism is going to come your way whether you like it or not. I'd advise that the next time this happens, you take a proactive approach to using that opportunity to shed light instead of pointing fingers.

Prime example, look how JJ of Birmingham, UK brand Electro Kid handled a similar situation when someone pointed out distinct similarities between his design and another brand, on a post I did about him: http://h1gher.com/site/2012/04/27/electro-kid-spring-2012-collection-part-i/

Instead of spending time correcting me or the commenter (which would have totally been within his rights to do), he choice to enlighten us on the purpose & origin of the design. He shut shit down from that point forward.

I feel like that could have done that in this instance as well. Just saying, how you and your team handle press from this point forward is going to be a key factor in the development of your brand.

Respect.

Your opinions are duly noted, John Mark. But unlike you John Mark, I never attacked Holla's design. I simply noted that his splash page implies that this shirt was released 5 months ago and that he should probably change his landing page OR make the shirt available for purchase. That doesn't seem like an unreasonable request now does it, John Mark?

I appreciate all of your comments but I really think that you're ALL missing the point.

I never ATTACKED Holla's skill, ability, or product. I can respect everyone coming over to my neck of the words to take up for your homeboy but the fact remains, ON HIS LANDING PAGE, the date was not (and still isn't) updated.

And if he has the right to NOT update it or NOT make it obvious on his site WHY he hasn't updated it then I have the right to call him out on it. Simple as that.

If there is a story behind that date then it's Holla's burden to make sure people know this. It's not "my job" to find out. Displacing the "blame" in this situation does nothing to change the fact that the change hasn't been made.

Oh, and what's this about "journalist integrity"? HAHA I'm not nor have I ever called myself a journalist. I document streetwear culture as I see it. If you don't agree with my opinions then that's cool too but again, this takes away from the original point (the LANDING PAGE).
