A couple years ago I was introduced to this unique genre of music called Dubstep when visiting some friends in Atlanta. I always wondered why–at the time–no rapper seeked to combine the two art forms. Both hip-hop and Dubstep are raw forms of energy, embraced by a minority of kids looking to express themselves and have a good time. In my mind a well blended “Rapstep” album could be the signature calling card of the new wave of eclectic and like-minded artist all over the South. Well, I only had to wait three years for someone to read my mind and make it happen but it’s better late than never I supposed, right?
Atlanta based FKi has been making dope music for a while but seeing them partner with production outfits Heroes & Villains and Mayhem for a full fledged project was almost too much for my heart to handle. Understandably if you’re not familiar with Dubstep or any of the participants on this “Transformers ‘n the Hood” mixtape, this may not be your cup of tea. But for the rest of y’all–prepare to be amazed in this muhfugga!
Features on this project include the aforementioned Mayhem and Heroes and Villains but also the likes of Mike Fresh, Stuey Rock, Travis Porter, Iggy Azalea, and more.
