I have thoroughly enjoyed the “Football Freakonomics” video series presented by the NFL Network and the dudes behind the website and best selling book Freakonomics (specifically one half of the duo, Stephen J. Dubner) . I love football and random facts–which is why I subscribe to the Freakonomics website in the first place–so them coming together in an attempt to make the average NFL fan think a bit more than they’re used to is an awesome concept in my opinion. Up to this point Dubner and the NFL Network have discuss things like the scientific relevancy of the “Big Mo’” and why statistical achievements don’t always tell the full story of a season, player, or career.
So far there have been three segments and since I can’t seem to find an embeddable link to just post these clips on H1GHER LEARNING, I’ll just give you the links and you can explore them on your own if you’d like. Trust me, it’s an awesome way to learn and kill sometime–provided you’re into stuff like this.
Episode 1: Is Momentum A Myth?
Episode Two: Icing The Kicker.
Episode Three: When Good Stats Go Bad.
