So on the 7th of this month, Atlanta based streetwear and sneaker boutique Wish released their special make-up of California streetwear juggernaut The Hundreds‘ “Player” snapback. The hat is actually pretty dope and the fact Wish was even able to get something like this off the ground is a pretty big deal to me. Anyway, here is the description of the cap via the Wish website:
Teaming up with The Hundreds, Wish took inspiration from the Atlanta-based public transit, MARTA, for their Player colab snapback. Incorporating the three staple colors from the MARTA logo, Wish outlined The Hundreds block font in yellow with “Atlanta” stitched above to give it local appeal. The bill of the snapback is set in a light blue hue that compliments their “s” logo on the side panel. Multi-colored eyelets offer a nice contrast while maintaining the color way aesthetics.
After reading the description, I had some specific questions about this re-work. I sent a quick tweet to the Wish team and they directed me to email them my questions. I did so (twice actually) but as of yet, no one from the store has gotten back to me. Undaunted by the snub, I decided to conduct my own imaginary interview with Wish. It’s probably more interesting to pretend to do the interview than fight for a real one anyway so here goes*…
H1GHER // Thanks for speaking with me. Let me start off by asking how this collaboration came about?
WishATL // No worries. Well, we did a collaboration with Mishka’s DART division and murdered the game. So with that in our back pocket we rolled up on Bobby and dem while in Magic last Fall. And so with our impeccable branding and track record–they kinda had to do it, ya know?
H1GHER // So you just pulled a “Deebo” of sorts?
WishATL // I guess you could say that [laughs uncontrollably then stops abruptly and stares at me--hard].
H1GHER // [Now feeling quite uncomfortable and trying not to make eye contact] Mmmm, okay. Moving on–how long was this in the making?
WishATL // A couple of months. There really wasn’t anything too it. A couple of emails back and forth. Some phone calls with Bobby and Ben but that’s really it.
H1GHER // Ok, Here’s the million dollar question: why use MARTA as the point of inspiration? A lot of the “cool” kids I know in Atlanta don’t even ride the MARTA!
WishATL // The better question is “Why not MARTA?” Besides we’re WISH, bitch. We can do what we want to. You seen our Maui tank tops and tees, bruh? Ain’t no palm trees in the “A” but we can pull that shit off. Make it cool, ya know? That’s fuckin’ swag to the max, shawty. We like the Rick Ross of this streetwear game. You might not like seeing Ross with his shirt off, tats and man-tits bouncing like a mug, but ain’t nothing you can do about it! Also, swag…did we say that already?
[At this point my face has taken a blank "Are y'all serious!?!" state]
But naw, what we really wanted to do was highlight what we believe to be an undervalued part of the welfare of Atlanta’s citizens– our public transportation system. It’s our silent protest to the city of Atlanta’s officials that they need to invest more resources into the expansion and upkeep of MARTA. Even though lot of people already rely on MARTA to get around, if the system was more reliable and far reaching then more people could use it. It would certainly help with the congestion of our interstates.
[At this point WishATL refers me to a link of Atlanta's fatal car crash & accident rates]
See what I’m saying? We could really use a wider reaching public transit system. Specifically the rail system. Atlanta is like the New York of the South. We feel that if our public transit system was on par with the Big Apple it would help with the development of our beloved Atlanta, improve our city’s overall walkablity score, and as such make our city a healthier one.
H1GHER // Nice. That’s deep & quite enlightened of y’all. I thought that this was just done to “flex” the WishATL’s muscle as a brand. Not that anything is wrong with that–I just wasn’t thinking that it would be so deep. This is really a piece for the community as much as it is for Wish.
WishATL // Exactly. So you think we’re just some damn Hypebeast!?! Naw, son–we got principles. We’re deeply ingrained with the city of Atlanta. This is just the beginning of what we have coming for the benefit of our fellow ATLiens.
H1GHER // True, true. No disrespect. Any other collaborations you want to give your supporters a heads up on?
WishATL // Yeah. We will be doing one with you, your Mama, and your cousin too [laughs]!
H1GHER // …um, aight…
*Again, this is a FAKE INTERVIEW. My made-up answers to in now way represent the views of Wish as brand, website, staff, or store. But it’s still pretty funny though. By the way, if you want to buy the hat ($32) you must do so in-person (447 Moreland Avenue,Atlanta, GA 30307) or by calling Wish at 404.880.0402 ext 1.

No thought went into the reasoning for using the MARTA color scheme. This is the epitome of forcing shit. This is a collab for collab sake. Do you really think the Hundreds give a flying fuck about Atlanta public transportation? Most people that ride MARTA can’t afford the hipster shit they sell at Wish in the first place. You shoulda clowned harder in your fake interview.
