So by now I’m sure you’ve heard that Weezy F. Baby (please say the baby) is out of jail and ready pick the world up–then I presume he’ll drop it on its head. To “celebrate” his release, I asked some of the bloggers that I follow to tell me one of their favorite lines from the self-proclaimed martian happens to be. Got some pretty interesting answers too. And after you read their answers feel free to drop some of your favorites in the comments section as well. I’d love to read them and reminiscence.
Tasha – She Bloggin
No that’s not a typo. That’s the name of her website. Tasha works tirelessly for the advancement of independent hip-hop artist in the Carolinas. Visit her site, peep some of the many interviews she has conducted, and of course you can follow her on Twitter.
Line: “We are, so ready for the war / C.A.R.T.E.R. put the beat in E.R. / I’m colder than B.R., add another 3 Rs / Watch me like D.V.D. V.C.R. Pump to your chest, I ain’t talkin’ C.P.R. / Ridin’ this track, like a mother f*ckin’ street car!”
Song: “Run this town” - No Ceilings mixtape
Commentary: How many of yall have yet to listen to No Ceilings? One person is one person too many.
Courtney – The (dope.) Game
Courtney is the ringleader of the Louisiana brand The (dope.) Game and like most self respecting Louisianians is a fan of Dwayne Carter. Find her at TheDopeGame.com and on Twitter.
Line: “I’ll erase you like I drew you bitch /and I keep that toaster, you can come and be my strudel biiiiitch!” [Ed. notes - I'm so Uptown, maafucka if you ain't don't go Uptown YEAH!]
Song: “Uptown” – Drake featuring Lil Wayne & Bun B
Reason: “Who else can/would say something like this? Toaster?! Strudel?! Come on.”
Commentary: I agree. First of all you have to hear the song for yourself. For that matter I guess you’d have to have heard the mixtape So Far Gone. There is no reason to go into the whole dynamic of that tape. It was a game changer. And in the opinion of a lot of people (this author included) this is one of the best tracks on that superb output. What you can’t see in the transcription of this line is the fact that Wayne harmonized the heck out of that line (I can’t find a harmonizing font so you’ll just have to take my word for it) and, to me and Courtney, it made an already dope song…even doper.
J. Dakar – I Am J. Dakar
The homie J. Dakar has been in the blogging game for a minute. This Southern Gent contributes to one of the biggest entertainment blogs in the US–Concrete Loop–and has his hands in a couple other things I can’t share with yall JUST yet. He does have a new personal blog and of course, he’s dropping jewels on Twitter as well.
Line: “I know what they don’t wanna tell you / just hope you’re heaven-sent and hell-proof / I, I’ll walk up in the world and cut the lights off / and confidence is a stain they can’t wipe off / my word is my pride / but wisdom is bleak, and that’s a word from the wise / served to survive, murdered and bribed / and when it get too heavy, I put my burdens aside”.
Song: “Drop the World”
Reason: Actually, J. didn’t give one but I’m pretty sure he likes it because it’s actually kind of inspirational.
Commentary: This verse featured a re-energized Eminem who pretty much dismantled this track. That doesn’t mean that Weezy didn’t do his thing. Although most people didn’t care for Wayne’s venture into the “rock” world I can say on was on the other side of that fence. And to me, this wasn’t even the best song on his “Rebirth” album.
Paul – Components of Enthusiasm
While the verdict is still out on whether Paul is cooler than me there is no competition on the blogging front. What his blog lacks in number of post, it dominates in sheer quality and there’s no questioning that. Don’t believe me? Follow the Components blog and check him on Twitter. See if that don’t move you.
Line: “I am more animal than the zoo allowed / Put me in the wild, I’ll be there for a while / You n*ggas little league / Call ‘em Curacao…”
Song: “Wasted” – No Ceilings mixtape
Reason: “Basically, when I was jamming to this mixtape last year for the very first time, this line came on and I was on the floor. It’s typical Weezy lyricism at its finest. it’s humorous, the visuals are vibrant, the references and metaphors are simply classic, and on top of all that he spits this with fire that amplifies the power of the beat. Weezy F. perfection. I am more animal than the zoo allowed? Come on, son. I mean really, what else can I say here?”
Commentary: This is the same song in which Weezy talks spits a line about The Catalina Wine Mixer. Go see “Step Brothers” to get the connection.
Randy – The Writers Block
Randy lives in Atlanta but represents for Charleston, South Carolina (and the USC Gamecocks). He’s the music editor for Southern hip-hop publication Ozone Magazine and runs one of the most popular hip-hop sites in the Carolina’s, The Writers Block.
Line: “You was my nigga, my nerve, my joy, my herb / My main motherfucking man Turk / My other, my partner, I was teacher, he was father / I skilled, he schooled, we chilled, we moved / We thug, we hung, we ate, we slept/We lived, we died, I stayed, you left!”
Song: “I Miss My Dawgs”
Reason: “This was a real coming of age song for me. Especially the part where he’s talking about Turk leaving. If you think about it, he IS Cash Money. Without Wayne there wouldn’t be a Cash Money to speak of. So this song kind of represents when Weezy took over.”
Commentary: I couldn’t agree with him more. I remember exactly where I was when I heard that The Hot Boyz broke up and I’m not going to try to pretend that I wasn’t devastated about the whole affair. Most people considered Cash Money Records the “Juvie and B.G. Show featuring everybody else” so hearing news the news that everyone was riding out was pretty much like me finding out that someone threw a grenade into a Pop-Tarts factory. Well, that’s how it felt to me–I friggin’ LOVE Pop-Tarts so…yeah.
Ray – Behold The Destroyer
In addition to contributing to the blog output of noted streetwear brand Mishka, Ray runs his own blog called Behold the Destroyer. Buddy pretty much wrecks shop with his blog plus he’s nice with the graphics. He’s sorta like the New York version of H1GHER LEARNING (#sike). Check out his blog, view his online portfolio, and follow him on Twitter to see if I’m lying.
Line: “Happy as I ever been, lampin’ in the hamptons like ‘what the fuck is a hammock?’ / The chef up in the kitchen like ‘what the fuck is a sammich?’ / I’m like we gotta find middle ground we need balance!”
Song: “Knuck if you buck” – No Ceilings mixtape
Reason: “This couplet is great, as much as Wayne detractors say he just gets high and rambles without making sense its impossible to ignore the skill shown here. if you want to talk technically, theres the great internal rhyme in the first line, and his forced rhyming of ‘sandwich/hammock/balance’ through his accent and slang. Above that though, he succinctly speaks to issues of class mobility in a way that reminds you of Elizabeth Berkley in Showgirls pronouncing Versace as “ver-says” but flips it into a Obama like ‘teachable moment’. The cherry on top though, is that he sums up the entire plot of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air in two lines.”
Commentary: What am I supposed to say after that!?! Ray murked that post.
Hold up though…
Let’s chill out with this lovefest for a minute because everyone I asked to participate didn’t jump at the chance to spit a line from the Number 1 Stunner’s son. I feel it’s necessary to show all sides of this debate so here goes…
Nanci O – Nanci O Radio Show.
Nanci O is (my words, not hers) the Oprah of Southern hip-hop. And when Oprah speaks you must listen…oh, check her blog, buy her tee shirt, and stalk her on Twitter.
Line: Doesn’t have one.
Song: N/A
Reason: “I don’t have a favorite Weezy line. Listening to Wanye is like listening to Ghostface Killah’s ‘Bulletproof Wallets’, even after multiple listens I still don’t understand what he’s saying. When (if) Boosie gets out of prison hit me up then; there’s a couple of liners from Boosie Boo I can commentate on. Plus I like his voice.”
Commentary: How crazy is that!?! I like Boosie Bad Azz but I’m not his biggest fan. I admire what he’s been able to accomplish musically and business wise but I also can’t stand his voice more than two songs at a time. It’s like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Just can’t get jiggy with that nasally delivery.

I didn’t list one of my favorite lines because this post wasn’t about me. I wanted to so you the views of some of my contemporaries and allow you the opportunity to formulate your own opinions as well. So don’t trip–start listing your favorite lines as well!
If you like his post feel free to share it with your friends! I’d also like to encourage you to subscribe to H1GHER LEARNING! Thanks for your continued support.
