This past weekend I attended a showcase called The 5 Dollar Bill which displayed the talents of local hip-hop and R&B artist in the state of South Carolina. I made this trip solo dolo as I wasn’t really sure what to expect. The last thing I wanted to do was drag my homies two hours away for an event that was hosted by people I never met, in a venue I’ve never been to, and if it sucked, have to listen to them talk trash the whole way back.
It was a real chill atmosphere, a lot of open minded individuals, and a lot of talent in the room. I don’t usually frequent Columbia, South Carolina often so it was nice to come up, see a new side of the city, and rub elbows with people actively working to change the current state of hip-hop affairs in the Palmetto State.
But being that this is primarily a streetwear site I wanted to focus this particular post on the limited edition Plan B Branding designed, New Era manufactured “Threshers” cap that one of the performer’s videographers (RE is the Future‘s to be exact) had on. There isn’t much to say other than I was speechless but not SO speechless that I couldn’t ask buddy to let me take a picture of it. I know that I had NO effect on this guy’s decision to purchase this particular cap but what it did signify was that the South is indeed “catching on” and there really are Seersuckered Hypbeast hidden in the nooks and crannies of the Bible Belt.
Peep the cork board undervisor. Pure genius and a defining feature of a Clink Room item.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with The Clink Room or Plan B Branding, let me at least tell you what I know. Plan B Branding is a company ran by two friends, Casey and Jason, that design logos, jerseys, merchandise, advertisements, almost anything that deals with the branding of a sports team however they specialize in doing that kind of stuff for Minor and Major League baseball teams. Talk about a dream job!
The Clink Room is their behind-the-scenes/fan site dedicated to interacting with their supporters. I’ve been following Plan B since BEFORE there was a Clink Room so to see them go from just Plan B, to the creation of the Clink Room, to the Taco Shop League, to the release of Clink Room products, to seeing said products with my own two eyes in South Carolina of all places was, in a weird way, a very rewarding experience. It’s a silly notion I know but seeing that hat was a moment of inspiration for me. Like what I’m doing in Charleston, South Carolina can one day be an inspiration to some dude that I may never get to meet.
This hat ended up being the cherry on the top of an otherwise successful night. Hopefully you’ll get to see a H1GHER LEARNING edition of the 5 Dollar Bill sometime in the near future. Until then head over to the official H1GHER LEARNING Facebook page and take a look a the non-hat related pictures I took that night.
