In the digital age, there just doesn’t seem to be time to do something as simple and gratifying as reading a book. Not when your Google Reader has over 50 RSS feeds to keep you up to date on anything you want to be kept up to date on. I recently finished a book that either the guy with an interest in all things fashionable or the hardcore menswear enthusiast would enjoy.
The book is called “Style and the Man: How and Where to Buy Fine Men’s Clothes” by Alan Flusser and is more like an encyclopedia than anything else. Almost ANYTHING you want to know about how and where you can buy fine men’s clothing is in this book. Some of the stuff I knew but there were a lot of interesting tid-bits that I wasn’t aware of. For instance, I’ve heard of the term “bench made shoes” but I wasn’t very knowledgeable on what that meant. After reading this book, I now know what it means. Kinda.
Yes, I’m a self-professed streetwear junkie but that doesn’t mean I’m against wearing a nice bowtie and cuff links every once and a while. Although I’m not trying to live a life comprised of only tailor made suits I do understand that a well dressed man can not live by sneakers alone (plus between you and me–I can’t afford bespoke). If you share that same sentiment and love to learn random nuggets of information then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this book.
WHO LOVES YA?: And look! Amazon has this book for under $15–and in hardback too. Well, isn’t this your lucky day?
PREVIOUS: If you like this book then check out the last book I reviewed on H1GHER LEARNING. Another light read but interesting stuff for the man that wants to know what he should be teaching his gentleman-in-training.
