Happy Friday. I just wanted to let you all know that I have switched some things up and the Facebook front. If you are interested, please keep reading to get the run down.
BACKGROUND INFO.
When Facebook allowed companies/brands/businesses to get “Groups” everyone jumped on it, present company included. It seemed like a great idea: I’m already on Facebook, a lot of my readers are on Facebook–it’s a win-win! Well, when I started the Facebook Group I was hot and heavy with The Brown Derby Haberdashery and H1GHER LEARNING was just an after though. A couple years later H1 is in full effect and I thought it would be confusing for fans of this site to be on a Brown Derby page.
Then things got–stale. I didn’t know WHAT to do with this Group thingy I had created and so like a bored child, I just ignored that toy and picked up new ones.
Through trial and error (both mine and those of others) I’ve been able to figure out what’s best for my company in terms of WHICH social media outlets to take part in. There is a seemingly INFINITE amount of websites and platforms to use, and I’ve tried many of them, and trying to figure out which ones were best for me was a pain! If you run a blog or any company for that matter, even though it’s a hassle, I’d invite you to participate in the same exploration process. Foursquare is awesome but do you need to invest your time in it? Will having a Tumblr account in addition to your blog help spread your message any better or more efficiently? I wrestled with these questions and more and at the end of my experimentation I’ve selected a group of outlets that I think works well with what I’m trying to do.
SO WHAT’S THE FUSS?
What I didn’t want to do was have the H1GHER LEARNING Facebook page be an exact copy of the full web site but rather, a complimentary component that DIDN’T get stale after a couple months. So after doing hella research (and testing, testing, testing) I’ve figured out what the Facebook page function is going to be.
JUST SPIT IT OUT ALREADY!
The majority of this H1GHER LEARNING’s exclusive content is going to be shared with my Facebook followers first. Any random person with a mouse and a keyboard can wonder onto this site but it takes a more deliberate effort to ADD my Facebook page. As such, all the pictures I take concerning this site will be on Facebook (I mean, why uses Flickr when I can Facebook ‘em?). Product shots (when we get back into making products again) will be featured on the Facebook page. Discount codes from brands and boutiques I’ve built relationships with will be given out on the Facebook page…long story short come to the [dot] com for insightful writing and go the the Facebook page for everything else.
Hopefully this will be a successful effort but only time will tell. If you have any questions hit me up via the contact page, Twitter, and now Facebook. Or just show your bitchassness and form your own uninformed opinions and hurtful accusations.
See if I care!
