Black Sheep, Charlotte’s premier skate shop, recently announced that the shop will be collaborating with Gallery Twenty-Two for a unique charity art event.  The event, entitled “Let the Good Times Roll” will feature the artwork of more than 75 artists utilizing blank skateboard decks as their canvas.

The opening reception will take place on 7:00 pm Saturday, August 7th at Gallery Twenty-Two.  The event will also be the launch party for Letthegoodtimesroll.org, a local grassroots organization dedicated to raising awareness concerning the need for legal, noninvasive places to skateboard in Charlotte, North Carolina. The artwork from the “Let the Good Times Roll” show will be sold to raise money for the Letthegoodtimesroll.org skate spot awareness campaign and to fund possible future public skatepark initiatives.

LTGTR seems like it will be similar to Pour It Now, the South Carolina based skateboard advocate group that in May was able to convince the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission to fund a public skatepark in downtown Charleston. I’m all about initiatives that put money into local communities and provide positive outlets for kids. For those individuals that don’t want kids practicing ollies in front of their stores and buildings, groups like LTGTR that are trying to work with businesses and government officials to create designated areas for skating, should be their best friends.
