Honestly, I don’t know why it took so long for the son of Chico Dusty to get his own shoe to design. As one half of the mighty funky Outkast duo it just seems like General Patton would have BEEN put his stylistic twist on clothing (not including the poorly executed Outkast Clothing line). At any rate, I’d been hearing about this video and seeing people tweet about it all day so I was actually kinda geeked to see the results.
Seriously!?!
Is this the best they could do for you, Big Boi? I was thinking something hard like a black leather monochrome with red laces (Atlanta Falcons) or black patent leather with purple ribbon laces (get it!?!) but naw, they give you the extra regular Chuck Taylors with half of your album’s name on one shoe and the other half of the name on the other!?! Let us not forget the “Big Boi” Outkast logo mash-up on the tongue that couldn’t look more out of place. It’s as if the shoe was finished and then someone came back near the release date and asked why it doesn’t actually say Big Boi?
“Dammit mayne! Where we gonna put his name at? This artwork is supposed to be sent to production in an hour! Ummmm, let’s just put it riiiiiiiight here. Cool? That looks alright, right? Sweet…so, anyone feel like tacos tonight?”
For the record, there is nothing wrong with the model they selected, I’m a proud rocker of the world famous Chucks and will be until the day I die, but the execution left a lot to be desired in my opinion. Nothing about this shoe says “Big Boi” to me–other than the logo of course–and that is a problem in my eyes. They could have easily replaced his name with anyone else’s and it would look just as bland and uninspiring. For a legend in the game (not just in Southern hip-hop but in all of rapdom) like Daddy Fat Sacks, I believe he deserved better. Much better. Did yall see what Louisiana spitta Curren$y got from Converse? Now THAT’S how you design a shoe for an album release.

Looks like something you could customize yourself

That is a pretty plain shoe. I understand keeping things simple, but I would have expected something a little more from Big Boi.
