Being from the South, I’m very familiar with the term “BIG ASS CHAIN” (I ain’t lying!). It’s the keystone to the outfit of any trapper/rapper getting major paper and being “dope boy fresh” , a phrase made popular by the self-proclaimed King of the South T.I., usually consist of a couple key elements: A big ass chain with extra points given for having multiple chains at one time (see Gucci Mane), a big ring (again, multiple points for having more than one ring), and a grill. Earrings are not necessary needed to complete the equation but they do add a bit of pizazz to the kit. However an old school Chevy on them grown men is the most quintessential aspect of this arrangement. There’s nothing intimidating about some dude with 7 Lil Boosie chains jumping out of a Honda Civic. Not gangsta.
Notwithstanding, leave it to Mr. Kanye West to take things to the artistic extreme. Not only did he bust out with the most arrogant and spectacular award show opening act of recent memory–preforming a song about power on top of a mountain to open the 2010 BET Awards–but he did so with a chain/ring combination that would impress the likes of Mr. T. The “Horace Chain” which is what the internet seems to be calling it should actually be called the “Horus Chain” because the medallion seems to be made into the likeness of the ancient Egyptian God of the king, the sky and vengeance, Horus son of Isis. Either way, it was a fitting accessory to complete Kanye’s ominous performance. So not only did Kanye bust out a big ass chain but he also snuck in a history lesson. If that’s not one of the sickest things ever done by a rapper, Southern or otherwise, than I don’t know what is.
My fraternal alliance makes me go gaga (#NoLady) for anything ancient Egyptian themed so this Horus pendent and pyramid ring made me salivate something serious but I want to know was I the only person that digs the whole POWER x HORUS x MOUNTAIN concept? Was I the only person to connect those dots?

‘Ye always takes it to another level. You expected something less?

Indeed, I did not but I will say that I’m surprised by the Horus reference.

It’s funny because I was on twitter the other day and people were automatically saying the angle he was going at before he even made a statement. I’m glad someone got it right. We all know, Ye is never subtle.
