Wait…hold up. I know that Jordan is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his signature sneaker this year which is a huge accomplishment to say the least. But the tomfoolery that has befallen the college basketball landscape is too much for me to ignore. Last night, in honor of this anniversary the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s mens basketball team wore SILVER uniforms. Not only did they not look good but I think this is an egregious front to college athletics as a whole. Yeah, let’s screw with our UNIVERSITY’S IDENTITY for a commerical corporation. If you wanted to celebrate Michael Jordan then why not just wear a throwback of the uni he wore while a Tar Heel? Throwbacks are one thing but this is pimpin’ at its finest. The AD pimped the mens program to celebrate the achievements of a sneaker! Not the man…the shoe. This reminds me of when Fedex wanted the University of Memphis to wear ORANGE jerseys to signify the reletionship between the school and the company. Thankfully that didn’t happen but atleast the school–the entire school–not just the basketball team benefits from their partnership. How was Jordan benefited UNC besides giving a discount to basketball team when they order their shoes?
Oh and what’s even better is that Cal AND Georgetown are dancing to the same beat. What possible connection could they have with Michael Jordan? Ah yes, it’s gotta be the shoes.
Am I the only person that thinks there’s something wrong with this?

HELL NAW! That was the most ridiculous display of WHORING oneselfs for a few dollars. And then they were getting mollywapped! I blame MJ for some of this too though. Common sense was the throwback.

You’d think so but I guess Jordan wasn’t paying for nostalgia, he wanted silver. Haha

I have to disagree that colorways is sick. Granted you reff. to the FedEx Memphis Tigers jersy is sound, but brands have been using teams to promote themselves for ages. A special limited colorway for NC’s greatest player isn’t that bad. But i will add this , ” Michael Jordan is bad!” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRehsQLsVKM

A state supported institution of higher learning has every right to be sponsored by whomever they choose. But understand, they aren’t represented the history of their University or program but of a sneaker! Really? What’s really good with that?
I feel like at some point integrity is more important than money. Especially for a University with such proud traditions. I could almost see if it was a tiny school looking for some publicity (although I’d still be against it) but this is UN friggin’ C! They don’t have to do this.
