EXCLUSIVE: H1TV x WARREN JAE.
I don’t know if you remember but I told yall that last weekend I was in Columbia, South Carolina for a showcase of hip-hop talent. There were a lot of talent artist in the building but I really wanted to see the Million Dollar Dreamz microphone ambassador Warren Jae spit his shit in person. For those of you that aren’t familiar with his work let me give you a BRIEF introduction: Military brat; calls Columbia his home; used to go by Young Burna; dropped a crazy dope mixtape called “What Dreams May Come“; has a dope video (with over 40K views) for a song called “Dear Jasmine” about a girl he used to have a on crush named Jasmine that may or may not have been Chris Brown’s most recent love interest; still waiting on him to drop his NEW mixtape.
This short interview was held right after his performance at The Loft and will be the first of many videos coming from the H1GHER LEARNING camp. I basically just hit him with the first ten questions I thought of . My only request was that he couldn’t dwell on the question–he just had to say the FIRST thing that came to mind. Hope you enjoy it and seeing as this is our first video, any constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated.
Much respect to 5Dollaz for recording and editing this very, very spur of the moment idea. Shout out to Randy and Clev of MMDz too.
LOCATION: Columbia, SC VENUE: The Loft FEATURING: Warren Jae SHOT/EDITED: 5 Dollaz PRODUCED BY: H1GHER LEARNINGGeorgia on my mind: 6 reasons to move to Atlanta.
I’ll be in Atlanta for the next couple of days kicking it with the big homie Rob Brown, going to see my beloved alma mater take on the Ramblin’ Wreck, hitting up Jus Nice’s mixtape release party, seeing the homies from The Process, and finally visiting the Graveyard Tavern. That just what I have PLANNED to do who knows what I’ll fall into when I actually touch down.
UPDATE: Blu Magazine “Superblu Party” this weekend.
The date has been changed but the good times will still be rollin’. Tell Nico of Blu Magazine that KJ sent you…seriously.
New Balance Minimus.
I wouldn’t call my self a full out Minimalist but I am actively working towards getting rid of all the extra-ness that is in my life. Over the past couple of months I’ve given away more than half my sneaker collection and who knows how many items of clothing because I’ve figured out that, for me, STUFF doesn’t make me happy. In fact, STUFF has made me more unhappy than anything else. Because the more STUFF I got the less satisfied I was because I always had my eyes on the next prize instead of being content with what was already in my possession.
That’s why the website is low key (word to Radar): no Flash, not a bunch of elements. I want my writing and the passion I have on the subjects I cover to speak for me. Now that I’m incorporating these principles in my life I’m…happier. Go figure. And if New Balance has anything to do with it, my feet will have a chance to get involved as well.
Music: OJ da Juiceman – “Coogi”.
Apparently, the elements needed for a successful video shoot for Mr. Servin’ babies are: diamonds + a green screen + goons + goonettes + and Coogi. By the truckload. I’m a Southern apologist and I will admit that to whoever ask. But in the words of Michael Blackson, even I “can’t get jiggy with this shit!”
“Style and the man” by Alan Flusser.
In the digital age, there just doesn’t seem to be time to do something as simple and gratifying as reading a book. Not when your Google Reader has over 50 RSS feeds to keep you up to date on anything you want to be kept up to date on. I recently finished a book that either the guy with an interest in all things fashionable or the hardcore menswear enthusiast would enjoy.
The book is called “Style and the Man: How and Where to Buy Fine Men’s Clothes” by Alan Flusser and is more like an encyclopedia than anything else. Almost ANYTHING you want to know about how and where you can buy fine men’s clothing is in this book. Some of the stuff I knew but there were a lot of interesting tid-bits that I wasn’t aware of. For instance, I’ve heard of the term “bench made shoes” but I wasn’t very knowledgeable on what that meant. After reading this book, I now know what it means. Kinda.
Yes, I’m a self-professed streetwear junkie but that doesn’t mean I’m against wearing a nice bowtie and cuff links every once and a while. Although I’m not trying to live a life comprised of only tailor made suits I do understand that a well dressed man can not live by sneakers alone (plus between you and me–I can’t afford bespoke). If you share that same sentiment and love to learn random nuggets of information then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this book.
WHO LOVES YA?: And look! Amazon has this book for under $15–and in hardback too. Well, isn’t this your lucky day?
PREVIOUS: If you like this book then check out the last book I reviewed on H1GHER LEARNING. Another light read but interesting stuff for the man that wants to know what he should be teaching his gentleman-in-training.
The 5 Dollar Bill was pretty dope.
This past weekend I attended a showcase called The 5 Dollar Bill which displayed the talents of local hip-hop and R&B artist in the state of South Carolina. I made this trip solo dolo as I wasn’t really sure what to expect. The last thing I wanted to do was drag my homies two hours away for an event that was hosted by people I never met, in a venue I’ve never been to, and if it sucked, have to listen to them talk trash the whole way back.
It was a real chill atmosphere, a lot of open minded individuals, and a lot of talent in the room. I don’t usually frequent Columbia, South Carolina often so it was nice to come up, see a new side of the city, and rub elbows with people actively working to change the current state of hip-hop affairs in the Palmetto State. Bean Dip Clothing: Spring X snapbacks.
The Florida connect, Bean Dip Clothing, recently released their Spring X snapbacks and my aren’t they lovely. “The Broadway”, as this model is called, comes in three wild patterns (teal, olive, and black) and slides in at a very reasonable $22. Check the Bean Dip web store to see each colorway and get your purchase on. Even though I’m becoming a plain tee kinda guy, I think these abstract designs are quite captivating. What do you think?
